Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber has stated that the Tom Bowles Detention center has come into compliance in the past days after issues were noted during the month of April by the Texas Commission of Jail Standards (TCJS).

   The Texas House, dominated by Republicans, recently approved Senate Bill 4 on Thursday April 27  despite heavy scrutiny and protest. , requiring Texas municipal law enforcement agencies to enforce federal immigration law on individuals who are detained by their departments.
